The 9th annual MTABC Conference was held this past year on November 4th and 5th at Capilano University. This year’s theme, “Defining Music Therapy,” drew a large number of attendees. Dr. Jane Edwards flew to us all the way from Australia in order to deliver a fantastic keynote presentation on how to better promote ourselves and communicate within the professional world. Her informative speech, as well as her interactive Friday night workshop, was wonderfully received by our community.

In addition to the keynote presentation, Saturday’s conference had a wide array of presentations to attend. Presenters included Madeleine Bourdages, Supriya Crocker, Stephen Williams, Susan Summers and Nicole Burgess, and Liz Moffitt and Noele Bird. The conference was concluded by a panel comprised of Jane Edwards, Sue Baines, and Carolyn Kenny, who shared personal stories and strategies surrounding the importance of publishing work within the field of music therapy.

It was a wonderful weekend of learning and connections, and we cannot wait to see what the next conference will hold. Special thanks to the MTABC Board, who’s support was invaluable, as well as to our wonderful Conference Committee, volunteers, and sponsors.
