Membership is open to anyone with an interest in music therapy, regardless of qualifications or experience. Below is a full list of membership categories and fees:

| $70 | Active Voting 1 | Qualified music therapist with MTA status |
| $70 | Active Voting 2 | Qualified music therapist |
| $20 | Student | Student of an approved music therapy program |
| $35 | Graduate | MTA status enrolled in graduate studies |
| $35 | Retired / Inactive | Qualified music therapist no longer practicing music therapy |
| $55 | Friend | Open to anyone |
