Workshop description:

As Music Therapists, following our primary service to our clients and patients, we serve two accountability systems -- clinical and educational standards and the musical or artistic standards. In this workshop, we will take time to pause and reflect on how well we are doing as artists in our profession. Sometimes the urgency of the clinical work with our clients can over shadow the artist within each and every one of us. We might forget that imagination and creativity are at the core of our work.

How can we nurture our artistic natures so that we can serve our clients and our two accountability systems equally? The Field of Play, a set of theoretical ideas that can help to nurture our consciousness as artists and healers, will be briefly described. Then we will engage in a dialogue about how to use these theoretical ideas. Finally, we will engage in musical improvisations that give us an experiential sense of the benefits of the artists within ourselves and our clients.
