Beyond One Voice: The Camp Kerry Love Story …

Over the past decade, MTABC has hosted our annual conference to nourish the connections within our music therapy community and foster new relationships, learning and growth. This year on November 3rd and 4th, we came together to celebrate our network of music therapists with our 10th Annual Conference: Community Building. Friday night leading into the conference was an intimate networking social which included spontaneous music making, music therapy speed dating, and an epic rendition of “Happy Birthday” to commemorate MTABC’s 35th anniversary… complete with cake!

Saturday opened with keynote, Dr. Heather Mohan Van Heerden, who delivered a inspirational and moving presentation about the power of music, community, and love through her journey creating the Camp Kerry Society. The afternoon continued with presentations from Meaghan Jackson, Melody Owen, Alpha Woodward, and Susan Summers with Nicole Burgess. Presentations ranged from the science of meditation to the ethical use of client images. Saturday closed with a panel on the business of music therapy, delivered by Heather Mohan, Sheila Lee, and Michelle Oucharek-Deo.

Before departing for the day, a moment was taken to remember a founding member of our music therapy community, the beloved Carolyn Kenny. Sue Baines spoke to her life and legacy, and she will remain in our hearts and in our work as we move forward.

A huge thank you to the MTABC board, our wonderful conference committee, and of course, our music therapy community for making this year’s conference another amazing event. See you next year!
